AFDD, Arc-Fault Detection Device, or being called AFCI, Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter, in North America, complies with IEC/BS EN 62606.
In terms of circuit protection, standard setups include MCB for short-circuit and overload protection, and RCD (RCCB) for residual current protection; yet this is not safe enough. According to statistics, in terms of electrical safety, 90% of fires are caused by electric arc, which requires an AFDD for comprehensive protection.
Our AFDD is a combined AFDD+RCBO solution, offering short-circuit, overload, residual current, arc, and over-voltage protection, meeting the standards of IEC/BS EN 62606 and IEC/BS EN 61009-1. It selectively distinguishes a harmless arc from a potentially dangerous arc. For example, it breaks the circuit when it detects electric arc signatures of loose connections in home wiring, which can develop over time and become hot enough to cause house fires.
