AFCI breaker Arc-fault Circuit Interrupter 6-40A  Certification Manufacturer Wholesell

Product Description

Product Description

AFDD, Arc-Fault Detection Device, or being called AFCI, Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter, in North America, complies with IEC/BS EN 62606.

In terms of circuit protection, standard setups include MCB for short-circuit and overload protection, and RCD (RCCB) for residual current protection; yet this is not safe enough. According to statistics, in terms of electrical safety, 90% of fires are caused by electric arc, which requires an AFDD for comprehensive protection.

Our AFDD is a combined AFDD+RCBO solution, offering short-circuit, overload, residual current, arc, and over-voltage protection, meeting the standards of IEC/BS EN 62606 and IEC/BS EN 61009-1. It selectively distinguishes a harmless arc from a potentially dangerous arc. For example, it breaks the circuit when it detects electric arc signatures of loose connections in home wiring, which can develop over time and become hot enough to cause house fires.

Understanding Electrical Arcs

What are arcs?

Visible plasma discharges caused by electrical current passing through a normally nonconductive medium, such as air. This phenomenon is caused when the electrical current ionizes gases in the air. Temperatures can exceed 6000 ºC, which is more than sufficient to start a fire. (20% of fires are associated with electrical distribution or other electrical appliance faults.)

What causes arcs?

An arc is created when electrical current jumps between two conductive materials. The two main types are Serial Arcs and Parallel Arcs.

Most common causes include:

  • Worn contacts in electrical equipment
  • Damage to wiring insulation
  • Breaks in cables and loose electrical connections

Do I need to install AFDD?

Yes, it is highly recommended where there is an increased risk of fire:

According to IEC 60364 - Electrical installations of buildings Part 4-42:

Arc Fault Detection Devices are designed to limit fire risks caused by the presence of arc fault currents in the final circuits of a fixed installation. They are installed in electrical switchboards, to protect circuits supplying power sockets and lighting, and are especially recommended in cases of renovation.

Since 2014, IEC 60364 recommends surrounding the installation and application environments of AFDDs in residential and commercial buildings:

  • In locations with sleeping accommodations (e.g., hotels, nursing homes, bedrooms in homes)
  • In locations with risks of fire due to high quantities of flammable materials (e.g., barns, woodworking shops, stores of combustible materials)
  • In locations with combustible constructional materials (e.g., wooden buildings)
  • In fire propagating structures (e.g., high-rise buildings)
  • In locations where irreplaceable goods are housed (e.g., museums)

It is recommended that AFDDs be installed at the place of origin of the low voltage final circuit to be protected (i.e., switchboard of an electrical installation).

More specifically, the installation of the AFDD is highly recommended to protect circuits with highest risk of fire, such as:

  • Protruding cables (risk of knocks)
  • Outside cables (greater risk of deterioration)
  • Unprotected cables in secluded areas (like storage rooms)
  • Aging, deteriorating wiring or wiring for which the connection boxes are inaccessible.

Our Advantages

Our AFDD (AFCI) features a compact total length of 115mm. Compact yet no compromise. It is your best choice for overall protection and prevention in domestic and commercial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q What is an AFDD and how does it protect my home?
An AFDD (Arc-Fault Detection Device) monitors the electric circuits to detect dangerous electric arcs. By analyzing the wave signature of the current, it distinguishes between normal operation arcs (like switching on a light) and dangerous fault arcs caused by loose connections or damaged wiring, cutting off power before a fire can spark.
Q Why do I need an AFDD if I already have MCBs and RCDs installed?
Standard MCBs protect against short-circuits and overloads, while RCDs protect against residual leakage currents. Neither is designed to detect low-level serial or parallel arc faults. Since statistics show 90% of electrical fires are caused by electric arcs, installing an AFDD provides a crucial, missing layer of protection.
Q What specific protections does this AFDD model offer?
Our AFDD is a multi-functional device that combines AFD and RCBO protection. It offers 5-in-1 complete protection: short-circuit protection, overload protection, residual current (earth leakage) protection, electric arc protection, and over-voltage protection.
Q Where is the installation of AFDDs recommended?
In compliance with IEC 60364, AFDDs are highly recommended for high-risk environments including residential sleeping quarters, nursing homes, facilities constructed with combustible materials (like wooden structures), buildings where highly flammable goods are stored, and public sites housing irreplaceable assets, such as museums.
Q What customization options do you provide for bulk orders?
We offer extensive customization services. This includes pad or laser printing for product labeling, bespoke white gift boxes or bulk neutral carton options, and the design and development of custom product molds tailored to large-volume requirements.
